Krimmler Waterfalls

Krimmler Waterfalls

The Krimmler Waterfalls are the largest waterfalls in Europe. With a fall height of 380 metres, they are the fifth largest falls in the world.
The falls are formed by the Krimmler Ache, which falls down over three stages into the Valley. The first step with the Upper Falls is 140 m high followed shortly by a flat section before the second section where the water falls a further 100 m. The third section, the Untere Achfall, is another 140 m high. The 4 km Waterfall Path is interesting. It runs parallel to the waterfall up the hill. There are a number of viewing points along the path from which there are fabulous views of the Waterfall. The walk to the Upper Fall takes about an hour but is highly recommended.
The fog caused by the waterfall ensures that there is little variation in temperature throughout the year.  In this very damp region mosses and ferns thrive. The area is home to 327 different varieties of moss. Birdlife also thrives here; 62 different types live here.
