Salzburg Open-Air Museum

Freilichtmuseum Salzburg

In the Salzburg Open-Air Museum representative or typical examples of the farm buildings and dwellings have been reconstructed to preserve them for future generations. 60 buildings from Flachgau, Tennengau, Pongau, Pinzgau and Lungau provide a broad overview of the living conditions in the Salzburg area. Forests, meadows with fences, churches, orchards and grain fields are included in the museum. Ponds and weirs make an interesting change to the buildings in the museum and also serve to power the mills and saws. All this technical equipment of the farming world is fully functional in the Open-Air Museum and provides visitors with an insight into the ways in which people worked in the past and the technology they used.
